Copy Lathe Work
The copy lathe is the perfect machine for Historical Reproduction and recreating damaged items such as stair spindles, chair legs, newel posts. From your damaged or old wooden items we can turn using the lathe an exact copy from any wood you choose from our extensive collection.
We can turn anything from 4" to 1.6m with a 9" maximum diameter
The copy lathe can also be used to create something starting as a paper drawing, the team then use the drawing to create a plywood template. This template is then used on the copy lathe and the machine turns the pattern out of your choice of wood. The pictures above show the process from one of the design team from our sister company George Barnsley and Sons making the 'Barnsley Burnisher'
Big or small the copy lathe is the machine for creating statement pieces, weather its a dramatic newel post to enhance your staircase or an intricate detailed roof finial!

All woods can be used on the copy lathe, choose from a selection of Ash, Beech, Bubinga, Oak and Walnut. We can also offer a finishing process at your request.
Here a customer wanted to use the existing pattern for the traditional 'Gents' handle but incorporate an extended shaft to create a round leather strop.

The turning team simply took the handle and let the copy lathe get to work!

And with that the round strop was created!
